Dawnwalker

The streets and pavements grow,

Flowering with dirt, grime upon grime,

And the trails run with mold,

From gutters overflowing with mud;

The concrete walls hail the sun

Like sentinels, ever-watchful,

Motionless,

And I still for a while, wondering,

Dare I still dream?

With the sun rises the consciousness

The answers topple down,

And in that moment of half-sleep

You smiled,

And I walked on.

    I love how the smile in your verse’s conclusive lines foisters another to walk on…A very soulful poem. Thank you.

  4. I like the quiet joy in this poem. I also like how this flows, with you as an observer, describing what goes on as you go “dawnwalking”.
